overview
Handmade by a local women's community in the Khayelitsha township of Cape Town, these beaded creations are infused with the vibrant colors and textures of South Africa and personally signed by the artist. The result of the efforts of the non-profit Monkeybiz project, this initiative ensures that all profits are reinvested back into the community, creating artistic and cultural outlets - including yoga, drama, and cooking classes - for women and their families.

Monkeybiz

Nestled within the Khayelitsha township of Cape Town, South Africa, Monkeybiz focuses on the economic development of women through vibrant, masterful beadwork. By nurturing the career development of more than 450 bead artists within the township, Monkeybiz has created an environment of tenable employment and satisfactory healthcare in a typically under-resourced area. We're enamored with these playful, impossibly detailed figurines depicting all sorts of African wildlife: a fuchsia elephant flaunts its subtly argyle hide; a lion shows off a completely beaded mane. Quirky and delightful, each figurine pairs color and craftsmanship with a pointed effort to spur sustainable income. View all Monkeybiz.
